reclaimed copper

reclaimed-bathroom-vanityI got a heads up a while back about Staples Cabinet Makers, and I’ve been meaning to post about them, but they’ve got so many cool items, like the Reclaimed Bathroom Vanity above, that I was a little overwhelmed. That said, I decided to do a general showcase of their work.

Stephen Staples of Staples Cabinet Makers, specializes in creating furniture and home accessories made with earth-friendly reclaimed, recycled, or reused wood and metals. Because of this each piece is totally unique (one of my favorite qualities in home pieces). The gathering process for each piece is really interesting; for example, here’s the scoop on the materials collected for the vanity above:

  • “An old workbench that was made many years ago from 4 x 4’s.
  • The thick white pine top came from a stall of a horse barn.
  • The back splash was originally a tin crown molding from the ceiling of a room in a house from the turn of the 20th century.
  • The two pieces of wood on either side of the tin back splash are wind braces used at an angle in the corner of a barn circa mid 1800’s.
  • The antique drawer came from Staples large inventory of salvaged drawers.
  • Weathered boards that match the drawer were used to build the cabinet door to conceal the plumbing.
  • Old strap hinges were fastened to the door and then bent to wrap around the side of the vanity.
  • An antique copper bowl will be used as the washbasin.”

This is furniture with an amazing history. All the pieces created by Staples Cabinet Makers have a past story. Other examples of their work includes…

Reclaimed Copper Pots – Cookies Anyone?

by Jennifer on March 17, 2008

To be honest, maybe cookies wouldn’t go great in these jars, but so much more would…

copper pots

These beautiful Roycroft Boxes, or pots plus lids from BTC Elements are made from reclaimed copper that’s been gathered, melted, and hammered into the lovely image you see above. Another perk is that the pots are fair trade with the coppersmiths of Cobre Importers of Central Mexico. Each piece is signed by the artisan who makes it.

With three sizes to choose from you could keep tea, or dried herbs, incense; all sorts of cool things in these, in the bath, bedroom, or kitchen. See more photos, including some nice close ups at BTC Elements.
