My Dream Bathroom

January 31st, 2008

If this was my bathroom; I would never leave it. Ever.

soaking tub

Diamond Spas offers custom steel and copper dream tubs, such as the Japanese Soaking Tub you see above - that’s my future bath by the way. Just beautiful. And if you need more than the sheer bliss that is the look of this tub, it’s also earth-friendly. The entire Diamond Spas line is created with recycled sheet metal. According to Diamond Spas,

“The recyclable percentage for stainless steel sheet metal lies between 60% and 80%. The copper sheet used in DSI fabrication is produced from 90% to 95% recycled copper. These numbers vary depending upon the amount of available recycled material and the mill manufacturing the metal. DSI’s stainless steel and copper vessel shells are 100% recyclable.”

Are you drooling yet?

Maybe rectangular is more your style.

I’m not sure of the logistics yet; but I absolutely must have one! One day… you’ll see.

Twisted Sustainable Table

January 30th, 2008

You don’t often see twisted tables. This Twist Wood Table from Gaiam is a twisty delight. Carved from a single piece of sustainable blonde mango wood, it’s rumored to crack, which will only add to its unique appeal. I like items that become more individualized with time. I really like it. I’m not sure what I’d use it for - maybe a plant stand or for a lamp perhaps. It’s a little small for an actual side table, (10″ square x 22″H) but charming none-the-less.

By the way, you may not be table shopping, but Gaiam is having their annual organic bedding sale right now. It’s absolutely worth checking out. Up to 25% off organic bedding.

Glass Dotted Vase

January 29th, 2008

Glass is a good product for eco-friendly homes because it’s recyclable. This glass, in particular is perfect for nature-minded folks.

The Dots Vase from Acacia is beautiful. Hand blown with subtle irregularities, and each dot is based on a vintage fabric or antique botanical print. On the back is an antique botanical image of chrysanthemums.

I think it’s perfect for a simple wildflower or daisy arrangement.

Sleepy Vintage Fabric Owl

January 28th, 2008

How cool is this little guy?

stuffed owl

At first I was thinking, child’s pillow? But no. This little owl is actually useful and non-toxic. This Sleepy owl (this one is called mellow yellow), available at Pouch’s Shop at Etsy is made with vintage fabric, and filled with non-allergenic stuffing and chemical-free French Lavender. Lavender is a nice sleep aid so having this fellow near your bed will be relaxing. Pouch offers up an idea of hanging him in your closet to repel moths. That’s what I’d like him for. I currently use cedar blocks, but I drip lavender essential oil on the blocks as well. I’d hate to hide him away, but it would be a nice treat every time I open the closet.

More than anything, I think this represents a great way to reuse items in your home. You can change the colors up and use some of your fabric scraps to create really adorable items. Items that serve a new purpose. Or, if your short on time these Pouch owls are ready and waiting.

Mod Bamboo Stools

January 28th, 2008

I need a couple of these stools. Well, I don’t need them, but how great would they be for company. 100% bamboo, sleek design, and a touch of curved whimsy, make these Modern Bamboo Becca stools from Design Public a fresh idea for your home. Available in cherry and ebony - but my favorite is the natural. Bamboo really stands alone in color.

Organic, Natural, Bark for Your Walls

January 27th, 2008

If you’re looking for a unique, sustainable, and beautiful wall covering idea; then Caba Company has got you (or I suppose, your walls) covered. Caba Company offers BARKSKIN, an organic, hand-pounded bark material that can be applied to walls, used in furniture making, or even used for lampshades.

BARKSKIN comes in many natural and designer colors, is sturdy, and easy to apply. My favorite thing about this home product is the unique aspect though. Due to it’s material properties and the fact that it’s handmade each piece is one of a kind. Your home won’t look like anyone else’s.

BARKSKIN is not some bark wall covering for die-hard hippies either. Contemporary and classical design fans will love this paper as well. At the Caba Company website you can click on swatches, and see the entire rainbow of colors available. From bright orange to dark blue. From minty greens to natural hues - they really offer it all. A color, texture, and design for everyone. They even have a great woven pattern. These are perfect for any room of your home.

The end result is an amazing addition for any eco-sensible home. Not only is each piece in this company’s artisan line unique, but they support many nonprofits.

Sweets for Your Sweetie

January 27th, 2008

Yellow Label Kids is a wonderful company making amazing 100% hand-made items. This company is a member of the Fair Trade Federation, and stands by beautifully and ethically made children’s items. Each of their products is created by an artisan who is paid a living wage.

I love their knit baby items most of all. Truly unique and sure to delight your little one.

Knit Cupcakes: four adorable cupcakes in a tidy green box. The outer knit wrapper even peels down; just like a real cupcake.
