Beautiful Relaxation & Light

February 6th, 2008

Do I ever have a garden set for you. Greenergrassdesign offers so many amazing items that it’s a little overwhelming - in a nice breath taking sort of way. They have many options if you’re looking for some outdoor living items come spring. My two favorites…

The Smile by David Trubridge for relaxation:

outdoor seating

Trubridge’s work is created in New Zealand, using natural materials. This Smile would fit nicely on your porch or in the grass. Available in untreated ash or teak with a stainless steel base. Also, available as an add-on option is a full size futon. Now, if you’d like to relax at twilight or in the evening you’ll need the perfect light to go with this. Greenergrassdesign has that perfect lighting - the Sun Jar by Suck UK.

solar light

The Sun Jar is made with an old fashioned frosted Mason jar. Inside the jar is a solar cell, rechargeable battery and some low energy LED lamps. You charge the light during the day in the sun, and when evening comes, the light diffuses through the jar to light up your world. Warm LED lights are use to create a soothing, natural light. Plus they’re automatic. When it gets dark they glow. As a bonus they’re perfectly suitable for the outdoors - water-tight and safe. I love this idea for the garden. The Sun Jar would also make a great night light for a child or guest bath. You could even line many up on a picnic table for late summer dinners.

Really flawless living - can you imagine yourself lounging around in the warm spring and summer evenings. This seating and light, maybe some wine. Nice and peaceful.

Greenergrassdesign is worth a long good look. I’m particularly in love with their lighting options, especially their Milk Bottle Lights, but they also offer textiles, baby items (to die for), kitchen ware, jewelry, and so much more.

A Bang-Up Eco Design

February 5th, 2008

Bang Design has a line called pli that merges nice eco sensibility with a classic, clean look. I like the plain cream color pieces but I just keep thinking how great the dark chairs would be for a nice bachelor pad. The entire line makes for a good collection, say for a whole office setting; but alone the pieces could really perk up a home corner.

From Bang Design:

“Pli is a combination of a plywood shell and brushed stainless steel leg frame. Sourced from sustainable plantation grown timber.”

Lots more delightful, artistic minded furniture pieces to see at Bang Design.

Surfin Kids Project Table

February 3rd, 2008

EcoTots Surfin’ Kids Project Tables are hands down the most attractive child tables I’ve ever seen. All of the sets have the same great lines; I am partial to the middle set color-wise though. This is perfect for the nursery or playroom. Although the set is clean enough to put anywhere in the house, and still your house will look good, stylish, not completely kid ridden.

Other benefits include height. This was designed so that your kiddo can sit, kneel, or stand, and the table and stools will still work for them. It’s a no-tool required build, and the stools nest under the table. Plus did I mention, this is a very green set of kids furniture.

From EcoTots:

- “100% FSC Wood · Rainforest Alliance Certified
- 100% formaldehyde-free birch plywood SmartWood
- Eco-friendly, non-toxic, water-based stains
- UV cured finishes minimize greenhouse gases
- No tools or hardware required
- All materials sourced in North America
- Wholly designed and manufactured in USA
- Member of the SFC (Sustainable Furniture Council) - Lifetime construction guarantee”

Available at Zac and Zoe.

Flower Inlay Bedroom Dresser

February 1st, 2008

I found my perfect dresser today at Vivavi. It’s oh so pretty and fresh. Nice lines, renewable bamboo frame, FSC certified birch, FSC certified oak veneer, formaldehyde-free adhesives, and a lovely low VOC water-based finish means you can breathe easy with this dresser. Plus it’s just so sleek. I get so bored with the same old dresser lines and finishes. This piece is unique. It’s available in sideboard, nightstand, tall dresser, and long dresser designs.

My Dream Bathroom

January 31st, 2008

If this was my bathroom; I would never leave it. Ever.

soaking tub

Diamond Spas offers custom steel and copper dream tubs, such as the Japanese Soaking Tub you see above - that’s my future bath by the way. Just beautiful. And if you need more than the sheer bliss that is the look of this tub, it’s also earth-friendly. The entire Diamond Spas line is created with recycled sheet metal. According to Diamond Spas,

“The recyclable percentage for stainless steel sheet metal lies between 60% and 80%. The copper sheet used in DSI fabrication is produced from 90% to 95% recycled copper. These numbers vary depending upon the amount of available recycled material and the mill manufacturing the metal. DSI’s stainless steel and copper vessel shells are 100% recyclable.”

Are you drooling yet?

Maybe rectangular is more your style.

I’m not sure of the logistics yet; but I absolutely must have one! One day… you’ll see.

Twisted Sustainable Table

January 30th, 2008

You don’t often see twisted tables. This Twist Wood Table from Gaiam is a twisty delight. Carved from a single piece of sustainable blonde mango wood, it’s rumored to crack, which will only add to its unique appeal. I like items that become more individualized with time. I really like it. I’m not sure what I’d use it for - maybe a plant stand or for a lamp perhaps. It’s a little small for an actual side table, (10″ square x 22″H) but charming none-the-less.

By the way, you may not be table shopping, but Gaiam is having their annual organic bedding sale right now. It’s absolutely worth checking out. Up to 25% off organic bedding.

Glass Dotted Vase

January 29th, 2008

Glass is a good product for eco-friendly homes because it’s recyclable. This glass, in particular is perfect for nature-minded folks.

The Dots Vase from Acacia is beautiful. Hand blown with subtle irregularities, and each dot is based on a vintage fabric or antique botanical print. On the back is an antique botanical image of chrysanthemums.

I think it’s perfect for a simple wildflower or daisy arrangement.

Sleepy Vintage Fabric Owl

January 28th, 2008

How cool is this little guy?

stuffed owl

At first I was thinking, child’s pillow? But no. This little owl is actually useful and non-toxic. This Sleepy owl (this one is called mellow yellow), available at Pouch’s Shop at Etsy is made with vintage fabric, and filled with non-allergenic stuffing and chemical-free French Lavender. Lavender is a nice sleep aid so having this fellow near your bed will be relaxing. Pouch offers up an idea of hanging him in your closet to repel moths. That’s what I’d like him for. I currently use cedar blocks, but I drip lavender essential oil on the blocks as well. I’d hate to hide him away, but it would be a nice treat every time I open the closet.

More than anything, I think this represents a great way to reuse items in your home. You can change the colors up and use some of your fabric scraps to create really adorable items. Items that serve a new purpose. Or, if your short on time these Pouch owls are ready and waiting.
