William Garvey Ltd - Teak Baths, Sinks, & More

March 16th, 2008

William Garvey Ltd makes some of the most lovely, swirly, deep tubs you’ve ever seen, along with other bath items such as sinks and some killer shower trays. Their material of choice for items that will be wet, like their tubs, is teak. Teak is both durable in a wet environment, stable, and with the proper methods sustainable.

William Garvey Ltd has a statement on teak, “Teak grows in the mixed deciduous forests of South Asia. It is not a tropical rain forest tree. It is also found in plantations across the world. We use teak from Myanmar that is harvested in an environmentally sustainable way.”

They have two items I really like. One is their teak non-slip shower tray. I never knew non-slip could be so pretty, did you?

The second item I love is their Helio Baths & Basins. In this case both the sink and bath are gorgeous. Below is the Helio Bath.

I really like the stand alone floor mounted tap as an application for this bath.

William Garvey Ltd also has some nice eco-company principals in place, such as:

  • “a safe and pleasant workplace
  • products that have a long life
  • materials from sustainable sources
  • controlled use of solvents
  • production with minimum waste
  • recycling of waste
  • Committed to supplying furniture and joinery in such a manner as to cause the minimum possible disruption to the environment.”

My Dream Bathroom

January 31st, 2008

If this was my bathroom; I would never leave it. Ever.

Diamond Spas offers custom steel and copper dream tubs, such as the Japanese Soaking Tub you see above - that’s my future bath by the way. Just beautiful. And if you need more than the sheer bliss that is the look of this tub, it’s also earth-friendly. The entire Diamond Spas line is created with recycled sheet metal. According to Diamond Spas,

“The recyclable percentage for stainless steel sheet metal lies between 60% and 80%. The copper sheet used in DSI fabrication is produced from 90% to 95% recycled copper. These numbers vary depending upon the amount of available recycled material and the mill manufacturing the metal. DSI’s stainless steel and copper vessel shells are 100% recyclable.”

Are you drooling yet?

Maybe rectangular is more your style.

I’m not sure of the logistics yet; but I absolutely must have one! One day… you’ll see.

Vermont Woods Studios creates one of a kind pieces for your home and offers a multitude of projects available in reclaimed, recycled, barnwood. The end result is an amazing addition for any eco-sensible home. Not only is each piece in this company’s artisan line unique, but they support many nonprofits.

According to the Vermont Woods Studios site the projects they support include

“Kids Saving the Planet, the World Wildlife Fund, and Rainforest Alliance, to help promote sustainable forestry and protection of endangered species. We are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council for our policies on the use of sustainable woods in our furniture. And we are supporters and founding members of the Sustainable Furniture Council, a non-profit created to promote sustainable practices among manufacturers, retailers, and consumers.”

Pretty slick. Plus their work is wonderful. I really adore this Sideboard & Sink piece.
